Take webcam video with blurred background in Mac

If you take Zoom or Teams conference call, you might have made your background either removed or blurred in the past. This feature is so handy, since it give us some privacy as well as an artistic lift.

Recently I want to take some video of myself with the background blurred. Believe it or not, it’s not that easy. You have to find a software to post process your video after it’s recorded. The software can be an online application or native application, like Final Cut Pro or Screenflow. However none of the software is that easy to use, to a video newbie, it’s too much work just to get background blurred.

I looked around and eventually saw a solution which is not only free but available to a Mac. This is through a Control Center in the menu tray. It looks like the picture below.

When you are recording a video using any software, there’s an extra option called Video Effects would show up like below.

Applying the option “Portrait”, you will find the recording displays the blurred background right away.

Yeah, just like that. Isn’t that amazing? Have I mentioned this applies to all recording software?!
